Nearly 50 million people in the U.S. – or about one in five – suffered from mental illness in 2010, according to a government report released Tuesday, with women and young adults bearing the brunt of the crisis.
About 30 percent of the people who reported having a mental illness were between the ages of 18 and 25, twice as many cases as those seen in people 50 and older.
Females were also more likely to report having a mental illness; 23 percent versus 16.8 percent of men.
Researchers linked mental illness to substance abuse, saying Americans who experienced mental illness were three times more likely to have a drug or alcohol problem.Less than 40 percent of those with mental illnesses get professional help, according the study.
What kind of math is this? Let’s see.
23 percent of women report having a mental illness
60% of those that are mentally ill do not seek professional help.
85% of those cases reported are in people less than 50 years old.
This starts to look like more than 50% of the women younger than 50 years old are mentally ill…….
THAT explains a lot!
